Aqua Blues
Fashion and beauty trends come and go, and there’s some we wish to go and never to return again! There is a term “nothing exceeds like excess”. Well in the case of these trends, some of us could take or leave them.
1. Bad Weaves. If you can’t grow it sew it is an appropriate sentiment for some. But let’s face it, the bad weaves have run their course. More women are opting for natural styles and taking better care of our hair. So why is the fake hair industry still a billion dollar business that is dominated by non-blacks? Perhaps because some of us are not comfortable in our own skin. Weaves used to go undetectable, now they stick out like sore thumbs. If you’re going the weave route, just make sure you don’t overdo it.
2. Fake Eyelashes. Rolls eyes. The “baby-doll” eyelashes are the ugliest of them all. You know the ones that were on those dolls that stood in the corner of your great-aunt’s living room with the eyes that roll back? Oh wait, that’s my story…Anywho, the eyeslashes should complement not overpower your eyes. Select a lash that looks natural and flattering.
3. Acrylic Nails. I didn’t know people still paid for these. Acrylic nails are not only played out, they’re a catalyst for bacteria and fungus. If you still can’t let go of your acrylics, maybe it’s time to choose a gel nail and pop some Biotin capsules to get your own nails to grow.
4. Fake Designer Handbags. If you and three of your friends are all rocking Gucci bags at the same time, chances are you bought them in the parking lot at the same time. Fakes are never in fashion. And trust me, you can tell the difference.
5. Basketball Wives Style Earrings. Yes they are cute, but now even the corner store is selling them. Not only are some of the earrings over-the-top, they are damaging people’s ears and there’s nothing fashionable about that. Don’t get me wrong i love some of those fabulous earrings and even own a couple of pairs. But still we have to be careful not to overdo it. If you’re wearing the big earrings, leave the jangling bracelets and multiple necklaces at home. Hopefully after the summer their appeal will die down and some of you can reclaim your earlobes.
6. Leggings as pants. Sorry, but some of you bad built, pancake, camel-toe having ladies should NEVER wear leggings as pants. We don’t need to see all your flaws and despite what what’s-his-name told you, they do not look good. Please keep the shirts over your derriere if you dare to continue this trend.
7. Tattoos. Yes, tattoos are fashionable, hey I have a few. But when you’re bored, it is not time to go and get a new tattoo. Hideous mistakes are made on impulse and boredom and make one’s thought process seemingly non-existent. And remember, it’ll hurt more to remove your tattoo mistake.
8. Frosted Eye Makeup. Are you a cake or a lady? If your make up makes you look like a clown, it’s time to save the frosting for the kids birthday parties.
9. Barbie Necklaces. Another corner store hot-seller. If you don’t look like a real Barbie doll, please stop wearing the Barbie jewelry. Last time I checked Barbie didn’t have a Michelin man stomach or a butt with the circumference of a small planet. Some trends just need to stop.
10. Super Glossy Lips. Gloss is not made to make you look like your lips are patent leather–or as my friend likes to say, jellyfish lips! Just a dab is fine. And please, please, please, please, no black lipliner.
Gabby is Haute in Pink!!
Gotta give my props to the gorgeous Gabrielle Union who pulled me out of my blog hiatus to talk about this haute pink dress she wore to the Dior Pop-Up Store event in Miami!
Of course like most of us Bay Area bred fashionista representers, she came correct and looks simply freakin fabulous. I have to have this dress Gabby so I need you tell me where you got it from!! This dress is simple, chic, and the color looks great against her beautiful skin. (I told y’all we 70′s babies don’t age!!) I really love this look!
Like a true Chocolate Fashionista, Gabby ran it. So all I gotta say is, “Werk bish!” Top this one Rihanna!!
- Who runs the world, Gabby does!!
- She’s got legs…and the looks!
